The 77th collectible microfiber shows a detail of one of the most representative paintings of Longhi’s activity, now preserved in the “Gallerie dell’Accademia” in Venice.
Together with his contemporary Carlo Goldoni, he minutely described life in 18th-century Venice, and the central role of women, who enjoy unparalleled freedom in Venice, is striking.
In this work, just by looking at the clothing, we can recognize the various social classes, from the simple garzone to the clergyman with the nobleman next to him while in the center the middle class woman is visited by the doctor who dictates to the speziale (pharmacist) the recipe for making up the medicine.
The attention to detail is remarkable, beginning with the depiction of the bow spectacles placed on the doctor’s nose to the Albarelli painted in the typical colors of Bassano ceramics.
